Privacy Policy

Last Updated: November 1, 2026

The app was previously named SightWord.

Scenio (“we”, “us”, or “our”) takes the protection of your personal information seriously. This Privacy Policy applies to the products and services provided by the Scenio iOS and Android apps.

1. Information We Collect

We only collect information necessary to provide and improve our service:

  • Device Information: Device model, operating system version, and device identifier (used for App Attest device verification) — for security verification and service optimization.
  • Usage Data: App usage statistics (study duration, recognition count, etc.) — to improve the product experience.
  • Account Settings: Language preferences and proficiency level selected in your learning settings — to personalize your learning content.
  • Captured Photos: Photos taken through the camera are stored locally on your device by default. When you use object or scene recognition, the photo is sent over HTTPS to our servers and forwarded to a third-party AI vision model provider solely to generate the recognition result. We do not store your captured photos on our servers: they are not saved to our storage, databases or logs.
  • Usage & Diagnostics Data: The iOS and Android apps use PostHog for product analytics, which receives in-app usage events, a random anonymous analytics ID generated by the app, basic device and app information, and crash/error reports. You can turn this off in the app’s settings.
  • Subscription Information: Premium subscription status and purchase information processed via the Apple App Store (and Google Play on Android) and managed with RevenueCat — to confirm your membership benefits.

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or other personally identifiable information, unless you proactively contact us through the “Feedback” feature.

2. How We Use Information

The information we collect is used for the following purposes:

  • Providing, maintaining, and improving Scenio's core features
  • Device security verification (App Attest) to prevent abuse and fraud
  • Personalizing your learning experience (e.g., recommending content based on proficiency)
  • Analyzing app usage to optimize product design and features
  • Sending local notifications when you enable study or review reminders
  • Responding to your feedback and support requests
  • Processing photos you take using AI vision model technology (via our servers and a third-party AI provider) to identify objects and scenes. We do not store the photo on our servers.

3. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We use the Apple App Store (and Google Play on Android) to process subscription payments. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and in-app purchases; RevenueCat receives purchase and subscription information from the App Store (and Google Play on Android), such as purchase receipts and transactions, product, and subscription status, linked to the same random anonymous app user ID. Payment card details are handled by Apple or Google, not by us or RevenueCat. We use PostHog for product analytics.
  • AI Recognition Providers: When you use the object recognition feature, the photo you capture is forwarded to a third-party AI vision model provider solely to generate the recognition result. We send recognition requests primarily through the AI gateway OpenRouter, which we have configured with Zero Data Retention so that it does not retain the image data. If OpenRouter is unavailable, the photo may instead be processed by our backup provider, Volcano Engine Ark (火山方舟, ByteDance), in mainland China. Volcano Engine Ark processes the request under its own terms. We do not store your captured photos on our servers.
  • Legal Requirements: We may be required to disclose your information when required by law, legal process, or government request.
  • Safety & Protection: When necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of us or our users.

4. Data Storage & Security

We follow a “local-first” principle: your learning data, captured photos, and preferences are stored primarily on your device. Server communication occurs when necessary — for example, subscription verification and object recognition (where the captured photo is sent to our servers and a third-party AI vision provider to generate a result; we do not store it on our servers).

We take reasonable technical and administrative measures to protect your information:

  • All network communications are encrypted via HTTPS
  • On-device verification (App Attest) ensures requests come from trusted sources
  • Data access is strictly limited to authorized personnel for necessary purposes only

5. Children's Privacy

Scenio is designed for learners of all ages, including children under 13. We take children's privacy especially seriously:

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13
  • We do not display targeted advertising to children within the app
  • Parents or guardians may contact us to review, modify, or delete their child's information

6. Your Rights

Under applicable law, you have the following rights:

  • Right of Access: You may request information about what data we hold about you.
  • Right to Deletion: You may request that we delete information we hold about you.
  • Right to Correction: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: You may withdraw consent previously given at any time.
  • Right to Data Portability: You may request your data in a structured format.

data is stored locally on your device and can be completely erased by deleting the app.

7. Cookies & Tracking

Scenio does not use cookies in the app. We do not display personalized advertisements, and we do not use data for cross-app tracking.

We use PostHog for product analytics. PostHog receives in-app usage events (such as features used, scans, and words saved), a random anonymous analytics ID generated by the app (not your name, email, or phone number), basic device and app information (app version, OS version, device model, and language/region settings), and crash/error reports. Events are sent through our proxy domain, t.sightword.app. We do not use session replay or screen recording, we do not automatically capture your screen or taps, and we do not sell this data. You can turn off sharing of anonymous usage data with a toggle in the app’s settings; the toggle is on by default, and when it is off no analytics events are sent.

We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and in-app purchases. RevenueCat receives purchase and subscription information from the Apple App Store (and Google Play on Android) — such as purchase receipts and transactions, product, and subscription status — linked to the same random anonymous app user ID. Payment card details are handled by Apple or Google, not by us or RevenueCat.

The app may use anonymized, system-level usage statistics provided by Apple (App Analytics). This data is aggregated and cannot identify individuals. You can manage this option in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

8. Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via:

  • In-app pop-up or notification
  • Updating the “Last Updated” date on this page

Continued use of the app constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

9. Contact Us

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about this Privacy Policy, or wish to exercise your data rights, please contact us at:

  • Email: [email protected]

We will respond to your request within 15 business days.

Any disputes will be resolved first through friendly negotiation.
